Pat purchased the harvester with a John Deere PowerTech™ Plus 6135H engine, which he says is proving to not only be fuel efficient but also has the power and torque to harvest, even when field conditions are wet. "Pickles can grow to be oversized in the matter of 12 hours," explains Pat Kenny, co-owner of Kenny Brothers Farm in Hemlock, Michigan. "You still have to pick, even if it rains. This engine has a lot of power and doesn't bog down under load."
"The Tier 3 PowerTech Plus 6.8L is a smaller engine, yet we're getting the same power from it as the Tier 2 PowerTech 8.1L in the lower horsepower range," says David Meester of California Tomato Machinery (CTM). "We've had success going down in engine size without any horsepower limitations or problems with the application."
"We chose the PowerTech Plus 6.8L engine because it offers a lot of power and good fuel economy for its size," says Tom Vander Wilt, Oxbo design engineer. "Plus, the CAN-based operator display made the electronic interface easy."
