"We always knew Plus-50™ was good oil, but we didn’t know how good until we pulled valve covers off two different customers’ tractors." That’s how Brad Suda, Service Manager at Grafton Equipment Company, Grafton, ND, described the difference they found.
Both tractors were in the shop for head gasket failures. "We knew both machines had been well maintained, and the oil had been changed within the recommended specifications," Suda said. "The 4850 had 10,180 hours on the engine and the customer has always used Plus-50 oil. The 4955 had 6,900 hours on the engine but the customer used a different brand of oil."
Test results
On left – With 10,180 engine hours, and having used only Plus-50 Engine Oil, the cylinder head of the John Deere 4850 Tractor was clean and without residue.
On right – with only 6,900 engine hours, the John Deere 4955 Tractor that had used a competitor's oil, had a thick and greasy residue.
One of the oils had oxidized, leaving a thick, greasy residue in the cylinder head. When oil oxidizes, it thickens, and becomes harder to move. It just can’t lubricate like it should…or where it should. The other cylinder head—from the engine using Plus-50 oil—was bright and shiny. It almost gleamed by comparison.
"After seeing these two cylinder heads," Suda said, "there’s no question Plus-50 is the oil our customers should use in their diesel engines."
It’s gleam or grime...and Plus-50 is a real grime-fighter.
