NEW 2510S STRIP-TILL RESIDUE MASTER™ APPLICATOR FROM JOHN DEERE

LENEXA, Kansas (August 23, 2007) — Various conservation tillage methods are becoming more popular as growers seek ways to reduce fuel and labor while improving soil properties and decreasing soil erosion. John Deere introduces the new 2510S Strip-Till Residue Master Applicator to help growers reduce tillage while maintaining or increasing yields.

"Experienced strip-tillers know the importance of consistent residue management, nutrient placement and seedbed preparation in a strip-till system," says Dave Wendt, product manager, John Deere Des Moines Works. "The new 12-row, 30-foot Residue Master Applicator is designed to work in a 30-inch row configuration."

"It has plenty of clearance to aggressively manage large amounts of residue, consistently place nutrients and efficiently prepare the seedbed. And even in corn-on-corn situations, the 2510S Applicator will be able to stand up to the challenge of heavier residue with unequaled reliability and durability."

The 2510S Applicator features 25-inch coulters on 15-inch spacings, mounted on a hydraulically adjustable rockshaft. Active hydraulic down force maintains constant pressure on the coulters for maximum cutting and sizing of residue in tough conditions. A convenient, adjustable valve located on the front of the machine allows a producer to easily change cutting depths, depending on residue levels.

"Once the residue has been sized, spring-cushioned 16-inch row cleaners remove residue from the row ahead of the nutrient shank," explains Wendt. "The notched disk blade on the row cleaners can be adjusted vertically depending on how aggressively the cleaners need to operate. The spring-cushioned nutrient shank, on 30-inch spacing, then places nutrients into the root zone."

The nutrient shanks have a 1,300-pound trip force to allow faster operating speeds while maintaining a consistent seedbed and nutrient placement in the root zone. The maximum operating depth is 10 inches and the shanks are able to trip over obstacles and then reset back to operating depth.

"As the shanks lift the soil to place the nutrients, closing disks bring the soil back into the strip and help prepare the seedbed," says Wendt. "The closing disks can be adjusted from side-to-side, by pitch and by operating depth. They are also raised and lowered through a hydraulically controlled rockshaft to keep the closing disks at the desired position."

Depending on conditions, the 2510S Applicator also offers a rolling basket attachment to size clods and shape and firm the berm. The rolling baskets have a spring-pressure adjustment to change the amount of firming that takes place. Because of heavy residue, the rolling baskets are mounted with a single arm down the middle of the baskets, providing more clearance and improving residue flow.

"The 2510S Applicator is equipped with a rear hitch and can tow up to 25,000 pounds," says Wendt. "It's designed to handle anhydrous tanks or liquid carts and maintains a constant height when raising and lowering the applicator to keep the wagon tongue level."

Daily maintenance is a concern to operators, so the lubrication points on the strip-till applicator are designed for easy access. The rockshaft of the mainframe and wing frames uses high-density-polymer bearing sleeves to decrease friction, which eliminates the need for grease points and increases the life of the rockshaft and bearings. The 2510S Applicator also is covered by a three-year warranty to back the quality and durability designed into the strip-till implement.

"The new 2510S Applicator is totally integrated with GreenStar™ technology from John Deere. Whether the operator needs precision guidance, variable rate application for fertilizer delivery, or mapping and field documentation, these innovative technologies are available in an integrated system from John Deere. This provides exceptional value to our customers and ensures that they will gain the greatest efficiencies from operating the new applicators," concludes Wendt.
