SPANISH-SPEAKING TECHNICIANS BENEFIT FROM JOHN DEERE WORKSHOPS

Cary, N.C. (January 20, 2006) — Continuing a focus on superior after-the-sale support, John Deere Golf & Turf One Source™ recently hosted maintenance technicians from golf courses across the United States for a technical training and maintenance workshop at its Turf Care facility in Fuquay-Varina, N.C.

The three-day workshop was presented entirely in Spanish by Mark Shumaker, training instructor for John Deere. Rather than employing someone to translate an English trainer’s words, the bilingual Shumaker prepares and delivers these workshops entirely in Spanish to prevent misinterpretation.

"These workshops were developed to ensure that our customers understand how to maintain equipment safely and efficiently," said Shumaker. "That responsibility means we (John Deere) deliver the correct information, accurately."

Garry Carpenter, training manager for John Deere Golf & Turf One Source, expands on the company’s motivation to provide such a course.

"Earlier this year we provided a Spanish-language workshop for our foreign distributors and found it to be extremely successful," said Carpenter. "Bringing that resource to our customers was the next step."

The workshop included hands-on training as well as theory of operation for the 2653A Utility Mower, the 2500A Greens Mower and 2500E Hybrid Tri-Plex Greens Mower, and the C Series lightweight fairway mowers. Topics focused on electrical and hydraulic systems and included specifics on reading schematics, defining normal operating parameters, and diagnosing and addressing common troubleshooting issues.

Roberto Canedo of Elgin Country Club, Elgin, Ill., will be able to diagnose equipment issues faster and more efficiently thanks to the John Deere Spanish-language training program.

Roberto Canedo of Elgin Country Club, Elgin, Ill., was one of the attendees who appreciated the interactive nature of the workshop.

"The animated power points were essential and fundamental to the class, and when we put them to use in the lab exercises, it made the diagnostic process much easier to understand," said Canedo. "This will help me diagnose problems on our equipment much faster and save my course money as well."

Carpenter also remarked, "With the ever-increasing number of native Spanish-speaking technicians, providing practical learning methods in addition to our Spanish-language operating manuals is critical."

"The workshops will help me do my job more professionally and correctly," said Ernesto Rodriguez of Bryn Mawr Country Club, Lincolnwood, Ill. "I also believe that it will change the way I use the technical manuals. If I had not had the opportunity to attend this class, it would have taken me a long time to learn this information or perhaps I                                                            never would have."

John Deere will hold additional Spanish-language training in the future; the next sessions are slated for May and November of 2006. Interested John Deere Golf & Turf One Source customers should contact their local distributors for information.
