NEW JOHN DEERE GATOR™ HP SERIES OFFERS ENHANCED TERRAIN CAPABILITY, COMFORT AND PERFORMANCE

Cary, N.C. (January 20, 2006) — Customers can expect the new 2006 John Deere Gator High-Performance (HP) Series Utility Vehicles to be even tougher and more off-road capable, while also providing more operator protection and comfort than ever before thanks to significant new upgrades.

Designed for those who need the highest levels of performance, durability and off-road capability, the Gator HP Series Utility Vehicles deliver by offering more performance, traction, and control, while also providing additional operator protection and comfort features to enhance the overall operator experience.

"With the multitude of capabilities utility vehicles have, customers continue to find new ways to put these machines to the task," says David Thorne, group product marketing manager, John Deere Utility Vehicles. "At John Deere we’re dedicated to continuously improving our products to meet our customers' ever-changing needs. So, the enhancements we’re introducing to our Gator HP Series focus on delivering more performance and capability while keeping operators more comfortable than ever."

A new standard Operator Protective Structure (OPS) with lap and shoulder belt – combined with best-in-class durability – enhance operator protection and make the Gator HP Series among the toughest and most robust utility vehicles on the market. Customers will also benefit from an improved suspension that offers a smoother, more comfortable ride during "normal" off-road use. An optional heavy-duty front suspension kit is also now available for full cab machines and/or front-blade use. Additional comfort enhancements include improved steering, which reduces steering effort as much as 30 percent, and a redesigned Tier II diesel engine that offers superior performance and a quieter ride for operators of the Gator HPX 4x4 Diesel.

Other improvements for 2006 that help the Gator HP Series live up to its high-performance name include:

  • A new on-demand "True" four-wheel drive system with auto-locking front differential with a dash-mounted electronic on/off switch that provides exceptional traction in challenging conditions.
  • Front and rear wheel hydraulic service brakes with Hydro-Mechanical rear park brakes that provide a more automobile-like braking system, including smoother-feeling engagement.
  • A 4-bypass carburetor for easier starting, improved throttle response, and better performance in all temperatures.
  • An on-dash manual choke that provides easy accessibility and choke moderation for improved engine warm-up.
  • A larger 854 cc Tier II diesel engine on the Gator HPX Diesel that delivers outstanding torque and overall performance in addition to the aforementioned improved sound quality.

Adding to its wide range of existing attachments, the HP Series offers a new 10-cubic-foot all-terrain utility cart, a 40-gallon tow sprayer and an (OPS) roof, windshield, rally light kit and rear screen.

The Gator HP Series includes the HPX 4x4, HPX 4x4 Diesel, and the HPX 4x4 Trail Gator, all offering a 900-pound cargo box and1,300-pound payload capacity, best-in-class stability, and the industry’s only Hydro-formed steel frame for unmatched strength and durability. All models have a top ground speed of 25 mph with a two-range transmission that allows for superior low-speed pulling capabilities. High-performance, all-purpose tires come standard to absorb bumps and provide a smoother ride.

Other features include a 12V DC outlet, glove box, storage compartment, fuel gauge, and exterior scratch-resistant and paintable engineered plastic.
