1990  John Deere Horicon Works, Wisconsin, earned the first of three consecutive Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce Friend of the Environment Awards for waste reduction.

1992  Power take-off-alert operator-presence system designed.

1992  Recyclable containers ('Envirocrates™') introduced for lawn and garden products in North America.

1993  Phased out Freon air conditioning in new products ahead of automotive industry.

1995  Paint before assembly introduced at John Deere Davenport Works, Iowa, construction equipment factory.

1996  John Deere Waterloo (Iowa) Works received an honorable mention in the Iowa Governor's Waste Reduction Award competition for its pollution prevention efforts.

1996  Deere & Company received the Hammer Award from the Environmental Protection Agency for achieving a 67 percent reduction in the release of certain toxic chemicals over a five-year period.

1997  The John Deere Waterloo (Iowa) Works won the Iowa Governor's Waste Reduction Award for recycling, reducing waste to landfill by 56 percent from 1992-1996.

1997  John Deere Cylinder/Seeding Division, Moline, Illinois, won the 11th Annual Illinois Governor's Pollution Prevention Award.

1997  John Deere (PTY) Ltd., Nigel, South Africa, received its fourth consecutive National Occupational Safety Association 5 Star Status Award.

1998  Implemented formal Environmental Management System. Introduced new operator enclosure that provides quiet and clean air; sprayers that reduce drift from crop applications.

1998  John Deere Davenport (Iowa) Works earned Honorable Mention for the Iowa Governor's Annual Waste Reduction Award for one of the best overall waste reduction programs in the state.

1999  Turn-signal module connecting tractors and implements announced.

1999  Cameco Industries, Thibodaux, Louisiana, received a citation from the Louisiana Governor for reducing waste by 90 percent and organic compounds by more than 50 percent.

1999  Introduced 2-stroke engine innovation that reduced emissions 70 percent while improving fuel economy 30 percent with only a minor cost increase.
