Integrity at John Deere

Integrity means telling the truth, keeping our word and treating others with fairness and respect. It is demonstrated through honest relationships, effective decisions that consider the balanced interests of all those who have a stake in our success, and unquestioned commitment to ethical and legal behavior.

Integrity at John Deere
The company's leaders, like CEO Robert W. Lane, have set an example of integrity and hands-on leadership.
The company's reputation for integrity has been recognized publicly. 2008 examples:

  • Deere & Company achieved its highest rank ever in the annual "100 Best Corporate Citizens" list, which scored Deere 4th among more than 1,000 publicly-traded, large-cap U.S. companies. The yearly evaluation is compiled by CRO (Corporate Responsibility Officer) magazine. The 2008 ranking marked the eighth time in nine years John Deere appeared on the top 100 list.
  • For the second year, the company has been chosen by the Ethisphere Institute for its annual list of the World's 100 Most Ethical Companies, recognizing Deere's commitment to ethical leadership and corporate social responsibility. The Ethisphere Institute is a think tank dedicated to research and the promotion of profitable best practices in global governance, business ethics, compliance and corporate responsibility.

"We have a wonderful heritage," CEO Robert W. Lane said. "We are fortunate to have customers who want to buy our products generation after generation, and we have a deep belief in delivering value to our customers."

The company's heritage of doing the right thing was seen in its response to the May 2008 earthquake that devastated the Sichuan Province of China. The John Deere Foundation, Deere & Company's philanthropic arm, provided a $250,000 (RMB1.74 million) grant to the American Red Cross International Response Fund – China Relief and Development. The funding will provide emergency support to the Red Cross Society of China, and assist relief efforts by delivering food, water, shelter and other temporary supplies. In addition, the Foundation is matching John Deere employee donations to the Red Cross to support these relief efforts.

The company constantly evaluates promising opportunities. It will pursue only those that fit its culture of integrity and trustworthiness, for the long-term benefit of the company and all those who have a stake in its success.
