John Deere is the world’s second–largest producer of diesel engines of 40–600 horsepower, and a major producer of industrial engines and powertrain components for the original equipment market. Our exciting Power Systems initiatives provide employees with the opportunity to work on groundbreaking technologies that satisfy both performance needs and environmental regulations.
tier 4 engine development and testing
We’re currently developing technologies to meet the ever–tightening EPA and EU diesel–engine emissions standards, which affect both on–highway and off–highway markets. To comply with the stringent Interim Tier 4 and Final Tier 4 regulations, Power System Division teams are:
- Developing off–highway engines that use a combination of in–cylinder, air management, electronics and after–treatment systems
- Working with technologies so new, they aren’t even in textbooks yet
- Designing and specifying pre–production tooling, as engine factories prepare for Tier 4
- Working in our highly advanced on–site testing facilities, whose capabilities exceed those in some automotive testing facilities
an integrated and environmentally sound approach
John Deere takes an integrated approach to clean air, engine performance and fuel efficiency. Being able to integrate engines, drivetrain components and electronics is even more important with increasingly demanding emissions regulations. Power Systems engine application employees are working with colleagues in the John Deere equipment divisions to successfully integrate Tier 3 and Tier 4 engines. We’re also a renewable fuels champion, as well as a quality standard–bearer for the handling, distribution and use of biodiesel fuels.
our engineering development program
The Engineering Development Program at Power Systems gives new employees three engineering experiences in different parts of the division over two years. These range from product development to manufacturing to customer support. Participants can connect with a broad network of experienced employees, take part in group activities, develop career goals and determine where they best fit within the division.
