The Quad Cities

Located in the heart of the Midwest along the Mississippi River, the Quad Cities is within a day's drive of several major metropolitan areas such as Chicago, St. Louis, Des Moines and Minneapolis. In addition, the area is a stop along I-80, one of the nation's major cross-country interstates. The area is also served by I-88, I-74, several major state highways and the Quad City International Airport in Moline, Illinois.

Planning Your Visit

When John Deere moved from Middlebury, Vermont to Grand Detour, Illinois in 1836, it was the beginning of something very special for this Midwestern region. Soon after he arrived, he fashioned a "self-scouring" steel plow in his tiny blacksmith shop.

In 1848, Deere moved his operations to Moline, Illinois and opened the first plow manufacturing plant on the banks of the Mississippi to make use of the river's power and take advantage of the shipping and rail opportunities the area provided.

Today, John Deere's original factory is long gone, but his legend lives on here, and throughout the region. Come and witness it first hand at one of the many John Deere attractions.
