| Gator™ XUV 850D Pulls in Two Performance Awards (Summer 2008) |

The Gator XUV 850D has been turning
heads since its introduction early last
spring. Among those impressed have
been judges at two, tough, utility
vehicle competitions.
First, in February, Farm Industry News gave
the 850D the 2008 Finovation Award in the
ATV/UV category. (That’s All-Terrain Vehicle/
Utility Vehicle.) The 850D earned the award
after scoring highest in the Farm Industry
News Utility Vehicle Rodeo. The "rodeo" pitted
the 850D against competitors from eight
different companies at a gun-club reserve in
southern Minnesota. Each vehicle was rated
by eight different drivers at performing typical
farm-type tasks. Besides performing well overall,
the Gator XUV earned best-in-class ratings
in serviceability and handling.
Another winner. In April, the Gator XUV
850D won another competition. Side-X-Side
ACTION, a magazine dedicated to two-passenger
utility vehicles, named the 850D the Best
Utility Vehicle in its class. To win this moniker, the 850D spent several days in the desert landscape around Barstow, Calif. The drivers were impressed that "even off the beaten path, the 850D was all about power, climbing anywhere we pointed it without hesitation."
The review went on to say, "If you’ve got
some serious work to accomplish around your
property or on the job site, the Gator XUV 850D
is our top recommendation."
Impressive power. Reviewers in both competitions
were impressed by the powerful 3-
cylinder diesel engine on the 850D. One reviewer
wrote "At 400 pounds, it didn’t even feel like I
was loaded down. At the 1,400-pound max, the
weight felt very balanced. I had no problems
climbing with this weight in the back."
"The whole design, engineering, manufacturing,
and marketing team did a tremendous
job on the Gator XUV," states Janet
Schaeffer, John Deere tactical brand manager
for Utility Vehicles. "The true test of that
is when customers put your machine through
some tough challenges and you come out on
top. These awards confirm the rave reviews
we have been hearing from our dealers and
customers in the market place."
The Gator XUV was designed and is
manufactured at the John Deere Horicon
Works in Horicon, Wis.
