The Power Systems Engine Range

About Us

John Deere Power Systems
With roots several decades deep in farm equipment manufacturing, John Deere is often first thought of as a major player in the agricultural industry. Some overlook that John Deere is also a global leader in construction, offering a full line of equipment and parts, as well as off-highway diesel engines ranging from 36 to 448 kW (49 to 600 hp).

At John Deere, we have more than 85 years of off-highway engine experience and expertise. Since 1949, we have designed and manufactured more than 5 million diesel engines and have established a network of more than 4,000 John Deere dealers that offer engine service and support. John Deere engines are produced in different factories worldwide: Saran (France), Waterloo (USA), Torreon (Mexico), Pune (India), and Rosario (Argentina). John Deere is a leader in developing world-class diesel engines and integrating them into off-highway applications. John Deere engines are distributed to more than 700 OEMs worldwide for use in construction, marine, agricultural and forestry machines, air compressors, generator sets, irrigation pumps, and natural gas on-highway applications. John Deere also manufactures drivetrain components.

Saran’s Factory
Saran factory is based near Orleans (France), manufactures diesel engines from 36 to 205 kW and has been ISO9002 certified by the AFAQ (Association Française pour l'Assurance de la Qualité) in November 1990. Saran is nowadays ISO9001 (2000 version) as well as ISO14001 (environment respect) certified. Administrative centre as well as Marketing Branch (responsible for engines Sales in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and Australia) are also hosted in Saran factory. Moreover, European Engine Engineering based in Saran is dedicated to customers applications management, Emissions (Stage IIIA) and Noise European regulations follow up as well as specific parts conception and development. Latest technologies are also tested in newly installed cell tests.

Power Systems Emissions
John Deere takes its responsibility to the environment very seriously. We have been working on lowering engine emissions since 1967, years before government standards were set. We have taken an integrated approach to cleaner air while improving engine performance and fuel economy. The major directive of Tier 3/Stage III A regulations is a 40 percent reduction in oxides of nitrogen. Engines 130 kW (175 hp) and above were the first to be affected by EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage III A regulations. Building on our success with meeting Tier 1/Stage I and Tier 2/Stage II regulations, John Deere is now applying proven engine technologies to the Tier 3/Stage III A engines in our PowerTech engine family

Biodiesel

Biodiesel is a renewable, oxygenated fuel made from a variety of agricultural resources such as soybeans or rapeseeds. One of the primary advantages of biodiesel is its renewability. As a renewable, domestic energy source, biodiesel can help reduce dependence on petroleum imports. We recognize the importance of biofuels to our customers and to the environment. Use of quality biodiesel in John Deere diesel engines has economic and environmental benefits, boosts development in rural areas, and helps provide energy security. Other advantages of quality biodiesel include improved lubricity, reduced sulfur emissions, and reduced aromatics. Biodiesel has a high cetane content for faster ignition. It also produces less visible smoke and lowers the amount of particulate matter, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and life-cycle carbon dioxide emissions produced by an engine.
