Q.   How will John Deere Agri Services tools make my business more profitable?

A.   Tools such as the AGRIS™ V9 business management system provide the ability to easily capture key information while providing powerful reporting capabilities to enable you to keep abreast of inventory position, product margins, and account balances for any size business, allowing more informed strategic business decisions. In addition, advanced security features enable you to have accurate audit trails and help prevent errors, reduce theft, and make it easier to correct mistakes. Saving time - and therefore saving money - is achieved with integration features that eliminate duplicate data entry. Adding automation or enhancing your current level of automation with the oneWeigh™ scale automation system can help improve profitability by streamlining day-to-day processes and enabling you to offer better customer service. The AgroGuide™ agronomy management system is designed to help bolster margins and growth through enhanced customer service and more efficient operations, enabling you to manage product inventory risk and maintain accurate inventory control to better manage orders and reduce waste and shrinkage. ExtendAg™ management tools and services for agri-food businesses help improve coordination throughout the supply chain in the areas of process optimization, inventory management, financial management, supplier management, inspection and grading, hauler logistics, and chemical compliance. In addition, product quality management and labor performance tools enable food companies to manage raw product from the field through receiving, grading, storage, and staging for improved revenue and better manage labor for improved quality and productivity.

Q.   What makes AGRIS V9 an advanced business management system?

A.   We've heard from current customers that AGRIS V9 is the most comprehensive business management system they've seen for agribusinesses. The full-featured Commodity and Inventory Management packages and integration with the AgroGuide system are just three highlights, while integration capabilities with operational systems for grain handling and point-of-sale maintain up-to-date information and eliminate duplication of effort. Advanced security features enable you to have accurate audit trails and help prevent errors, reduce theft, and make it easier to correct mistakes. Security settings give you the ability to restrict or provide employees specific access to reports according to your business needs and set security on who can view average and market cost information to increase your ability to control gross margins. Reporting capabilities enable you to capture, consolidate, and customize vital information in a logical, organized manner to help meet business requirements. The iView™ online customer account viewing tool enables AGRIS V9 users to provide their customers anytime access to account information via the Internet. In addition, the oneWeigh scale automation system that integrates to AGRIS V9 adds a powerful grain handling dimension as it automates scale operations for improved productivity, communication, and customer service. The oneWeigh system also integrates with the binSight™ bin management system for better binning, blending, reporting, and traceability.

Q.   I have multiple locations. How can the AGRIS V9 system help me manage my business as my trade territory expands?

A.   The AGRIS V9 system from John Deere Agri Services is a scalable system capable of handling many locations on one wide-area network (WAN). The live inventory and integration capabilities of the system make management of multi-location information a simple task.

Q.   Does John Deere Agri Services provide a business system for ethanol facilities?

A.   Yes. The ethanol business management system from John Deere Agri Services is a complete, integrated solution to meet the business needs of ethanol plants - from the point of grain purchase contracting and receiving to inventory and payables management to outbound shipping. The system enables better administration of key areas including purchase and sales contract management; inbound/outbound shipments including corn receiving, bulk loadout of DDGS, and flow controller integration for outbound ethanol; production and financial reporting; RIN regulatory solution; and Web-enabled customer account access. The ethanol business management system also provides streamlined data management, including a plant process control interface for capturing DCS data using standard integration tools.

Q.   As an agri-food business, we are continually looking for ways to optimize our workforce and increase the value of our product. How can John Deere Agri Services tools help?

A.   The Labor Tracking system works in conjunction with the Product Tracking system to manage raw product from the field through receiving, grading, storage, and bin dump to provide a complete, integrated solution for hand-harvested crops. The Labor Tracking system uses a handheld device (PDA) to collect in-field information to track and monitor harvest and production data such as who harvested what crops, where and when. Electronically captured data eliminates manual entry of field data which reduces paperwork and errors; allows managers to better monitor and track equipment and field labor productivity for scheduling and payment; and makes analysis of data quick and easy, depending on the needs of the operation. The Product Tracking solution also uses PDAs to give managers the ability to more accurately and easily record and track all in-field production history for field and shed-packed fresh produce and to link data from the field to the finished lot. Reporting functionality gives managers the information they need to differentiate product based on practices and quality, support brand claims, and earn premium prices.

Q.   How long should a computer system last?

A.    Regarding hardware: With the constant improvements made in technology and day-to-day demands placed on a computer system, businesses find, on average, that they need to replace one-third of their hardware each year to maintain top-notch speed and efficiency. Regarding software: With John Deere Agri Services systems, we are continually making refinements and enhancements to better meet the needs of agribusinesses like yours. Updates are included as part of our renewable support and maintenance and help ensure the system meets your needs for many years to come.

Q.   When analyzing different business management systems, what questions should I ask?

A.    One important aspect to consider is how you can improve interaction with your customers. Another key area is being able to monitor your highest risks to profit through margin and inventory control as well as employee productivity issues. Also ask whether the operating system used is similar to what is currently being used in the industry. Will it provide you a platform that works well with modern information management tools, crucial as the need for data exchange outside your organization will become more important. Find out whether the system manages data from multiple locations easily and how security functionality and system configuration options allow for control of data integrity. Also, find out what your competitors are using.
